A Passion for Tech

A Spirit for Adventure

Virgin likes to be in the race – and we’re in it for the long haul. We’ll strive to work with the world’s best people and invest in advancing technology in order to ensure that we’re contenders.

Richard Branson’s own endeavours encapsulate the spirit that has driven Virgin onwards for more than 40 years. From breaking the transatlantic waterspeed record, to making the first ever perilous balloon flights across both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, to setting the world record for the fastest non-stop plane flight to circumnavigate the planet.

Breaking Boundaries

Now, after years of development and testing, we are about to take our first passengers up through the outer edges of the earth’s atmosphere travelling at more than 2,500mph – over three times the speed of sound. Virgin Galactic’s spaceships are designed and built with revolutionary but proven technology.

While we thoroughly make the most of the here and now, we also want to ensure a happy tomorrow to look forward to. Following our ground-breaking work towards the development of a world-first low carbon aviation fuel, Virgin Atlantic recently won the 2013 Sustainable Biofuels Award in the Sustainable Aviation sector.

Reinventing the Wheel

Motor vehicles are the single biggest source of pollution in the world. So when the FIA announced Formula E – we knew that here was a race we couldn’t afford not to be a part of.

The more we race to advance Formula E technology - the batteries, the motors, the charging - the far better your own electric cars will be.

Over the next 25 years, Formula E is estimated to contribute to the future sales of an extra 77 million electric vehicles, four billion barrels of oil saved and savings of 25 billion Euros on healthcare costs from pollution reduction. So who wouldn’t want be in the running? This is the race where everyone gets to win in the end.

DS - Spirit of Avant Garde

DS Automobiles is as passionate about its cars as it is about the technology that runs them. Inspired by the best in French automotive know-how, DS perpetuates the values of innovation and distinction inherited from the legendary 1955 DS.

The DS range is designed for customers seeking personal expression and class. There is a car to suit every individual’s motoring needs but with a style that outshines the competition. DS illustrates a new approach to the future of the car – a future inspired by outstanding heritage of classical DS.

So committed to technological advancement, DS Performance has been created to lead the way in research and development to support the search for better, more economical and environmentally sustainable vehicles. DS Performance is the motorsport division of DS Automobiles. Whilst maintaining elegance, quality and craftsmanship in its fleet.

Harnessing their technological expertise and galvanised by the WRC and WTCC successes of Xavier Mestelan Pinon, the engineers at DS Performance have developed the entire drivetrain of the DSV-03, including the electric motor, gearbox and controller. They have also designed its cooling system, rear suspension and transmission.

Both Virgin and DS thus share a passion for technology and through DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team we aim to demonstrate that passion by helping the team create a race winning car.
